UPDATE: the function has been removed in the latest iPad revision. PG&E in spite of their press releases about the “Green Button” has changed the interface and made our data grabber useless. Do not believe what they say about their desire to share data from smart meter is all green washing. PG&E is a corporation that does not care about their customers.

The UFO Powerstrip uses less than 2 watts of power. This translates into less than 1.5 kW/hr a month. The LED light itself uses 0.4 watts. It can be turned off by users if they want to reduce the Powerstrip’s consumption to 1.5 watts. (Or it makes a great energy efficient nightlight if you want to leave it on.)

In comparison, a fluorescent nightlight uses 5-6 watts and an LED nightlight uses less than 1 watt.

The UFO Powerstrip’s consumption will be easily offset by the power savings it produces. We will give more specific details of the savings in an upcoming post.

How much energy does the UFO Powerstrip use over the course of a month to serve up data and run its lights?

Hi Marco,
I downloaded your app from the Itunes and although i havnt gotten a Energy UFO yet I think its a great idea and certainly hope it works for not only us but for the whole planet.
Im based in Dublin, Ireland , and moving in to a new apt so was looking around for ways to save energy an since my only bill is the Electric I though this might be the way to go.
If you ever need a beta tester in Ireland do let me know , im fairly good with Electronics, I use to work with 3com as an Electronics technician.
Anyway , keep up the good work and ill be watching via RSS.
